Car flips on its roof in town centre

A WOMAN was rescued from her car after it flipped onto its roof in Gravesend town centre.

Traffic was brought to a standstill after the S-reg Citroen Xsara is thought to have spun out of control and ended on its roof in The Terrace around 2.15pm.

Drivers rushed to the aid of the injured woman, believed to be the driver, before ambulance crews could reach the scene.

Pat Herbert, 48, of Gore Road, Dartford was one of the first on the scene.

She said: "I just saw the car turning and I heard a bump. I saw it flip I thought to myself is that happening?

"There was smoke just bellowing out of it."

Police acted swiftly to ease congestion as traffic quickly backed up around the town centre's approach roads.

Cars were directed the wrong way down the one way system to free the backlog of traffic.

The woman was taken to Darent Valley Hospital. Her condition is unknown.
