Cars and cash seized in rural raid

THREE men have been were arrested on suspicion of burglary after police swooped on a travellers’ site.

Neighbourhood officers, armed with a search warrant, targeted the site on land in Queen Street, Paddock Wood, near Tunbridge Wells, on Tuesday morning. The suspects were still being qusstioned later on Tuesday.

A number of vehicles at the site were seized, including a van, a lorry, a 4x4 car, two motorcycle trials bikes, a ride-on quad bike, a caravan and two trailers. Some of the vehicles seized were suspected of being involved in crime.

Property seized included a substantial amount of cash, jewellery and a small generator. Officers are investigating the electricity supply to the property.

The operation was planned as part of the Tunbridge Wells neighbourhood police team’s action against rural burglaries, particularly from sheds and outbuildings.

Insp Jon Kirby, from the team, said: “Earlier this year we saw a slight increase in this type of crime, and although it is still less than last year, we want to make sure we continue the downward trend.”

“We want people to know that we investigate crime and act on information received. If you see a vehicle you think is suspicious you should report it to the police. Do not put yourself at risk, but if you can get the vehicle registration, this is always very helpful.”
