A thanksgiving service for the life of the former leader of Kent County Council, Lord Sandy Bruce-Lockhart, will be held at Canterbury Cathedral.

Due to the high numbers expected, the service at 11am on November 27 will be ticket only.

Lord Bruce-Lockhart, who was also a former leader of the Local Government Authority and chairman of English Heritage, died last month at the age of 66 after a battle with cancer.

He retired as KCC leader in 2005 after eight years at the helm.

Peter Lake, chairman of KCC, said: "He was a true reformer of local government and public services and devoted enormous time and energy to Kent County Council during the eight years he was leader."

To request a ticket, write to the Civic Office, County Hall, Maidstone, ME14 1XQ, or email sblmemorial@kent.gov.uk.

Any donations in his memory should be sent to the Heart of Kent Hospice.
