CCTV pictures have been released as part of an investigation into what Kent Police called a "serious assault" in Cliftonville on Good Friday.

A man and a woman suffered serious head injuries in the incident in Ethelbert Terrace, shortly after 5.30pm on April 10.

Detectives are now hoping to trace two men, pictured crossing nearby Athelstan Road at around the same time, who they believe may have seen or heard a disturbance in the area.

The 44-year-old woman injured in the incident is being treated at the QEQM Hospital in Margate, where her condition is described as "life threatening".

A 54-year-old man remains in a stable condition at Kings College Hospital in London.

Scenes of crime investigators in protective clothing were called to the scene, opposite The Lido leisure centre, on Friday evening.

Police cordoned off the area and officers remained at the property during the bank holiday weekend and into Tuesday as investigations continue.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 01303 289600 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
