TWO sport-loving Islanders are taking part in a Kent County Council drive to get children enjoying exercise.

Claire Hales and Jayne Stupple, both from Minster, are being trained in 'specialist PE' by experts from Canterbury Christ Church University.

Both Claire and Jayne work at schools on the Island and are currently taking a foundation degree in childhood studies with PE at the university, which aims to improve PE expertise in schools.

The degree provides a formal qualification and an opportunity to continue their studies if they wish to go on to become fully qualified teachers.

Claire, 35, said: “When I was at school I always wanted to be a PE teacher.

“Too many children sit in front of computer games and do not get involved in sport. I hope to help young people develop a passion for sports from an early age.”
