Cody McDonald expected to return to Gillingham training

Striker Cody McDonald (pictured) looks the most likely of Gillingham's injured players to return to training this week, after missing much of pre-season with a bruised foot.

Hessenthaler has also rated captain Barry Fuller and forward Dennis Oli at "50-50" to get back to full training at Beechings Cross.

Curtis Weston (thigh) and Jack Payne (dead leg) missed Saturday’s game but they look set to return for this weekend’s home game against Lincoln.

Mark McCammon, Garry Richards, Dean Rance and Simon King and now Danny Jackman remain sidelined.

Hessenthaler will be hoping the fans will finally get a glimpse of former Ajax man Stanley Aborah in competitive action this week.

He has been awaiting international clearance and has now almost recovered from a thigh problem.

With so many injuries of late the Gills manager reiterated to the players in the week the need to do things right at the club and, just as important, away from it.

"We’ve been unlucky with injuries but you need to look after yourself off the pitch," he said.

"We can’t be in their pockets and they need to do it right when we are not with them."

He added: "We have to make sure we can get these players back so we can mount this challenge that we’re after."
