Crash driver dies in hospital

A YOUNG motorist has died in hospital following a collision involving two cars.

The crash happened on the A253, on the outskirts of Monkton, near Ramsgate, at about 5.40pm on Friday.

The 20-year-old male victim, who lived at Sturry, near Canterbury, was driving a black Ford Escort.

Police say it appears his car went out of control, collided with an oncoming silver Renault Megane, with three women on board, and overturned.

The man, who was the only occupant of the car, was taken to QEQM Hospital in Margate in a critical condition. He died at the weekend.

All three women were taken to QEQM hospital with injuries including broken bones.

The name of the dead man has not yet been released. A formal identification is expected to be held later this week.

Anyone who saw the collision is asked to call PS Lorraine Silvester or PC Paul Squire at the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on (01622) 798538.
