Curtis Weston could make Gillingham return before end of season

Curtis Weston could yet make another appearance this season.

The midfielder had originally been ruled out for the rest of the season but he is making good progress after going under the knife.

Weston (pictured) suffered a knee injury which required treatment but he could be one of the long-term injured to make a return before the season ends.

And hope of making a return would be heightened if the Gills can make the play-offs.

"He could come back into the frame, with three or four games to go," said Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler.

It is doubtful that striker Adam Birchall will make it, however, while Barry Fuller and Garry Richards are also not likely to be seen again until next season – assuming they agree new deals in the summer.

"It’s been one of those years with injuries and it doesn’t look like we are going to see Birchall this season, you never know, but it doesn’t look like it," Hessenthaler said.

"It is frustrating for a manager to see those top players not being available and that would have made us a lot better. We are working with a squad now and the boys, other than Tuesday night, have pleased me."
