"A much loved collegue who was admired and respected."

That's the tribute to a postman who died cycling to work after being involved in a crash with a lorry today.

The incident happened in Marine Terrace near Margate's Dreamland amusement park at 3.45am.

A spokesman for Royal Mail said: "This is an absolute tragedy and our thoughts are with his family at this especially difficult time.

"He was admired and respected not just by those he worked alongside but also by his many customers."

The postman - aged in his early 60s from Margate - was taken to the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate. He later died.

The road was closed to allow for investigation and recovery of the lorry. It was fully reopened at 9.30am.
