Cyclist seriously hurt in accident

A PEDAL cyclist was seriously injured this afternoon when he was in collision with a car at Penshurst, near Tonbridge.

He was taken to the Kent and Sussex Hospital, Tunbridge Wells, by land ambulance and detained.

Kent Air Ambulance's helicopter was scrambled and flew to the scene from its base at Headcorn in just eight minutes, but was eventually not required.

The collision occurred on a minor road between Poundsbridge Lane and Fordcombe Road shortly after 2.30pm. It was closed to traffic at either end while police crash investigators moved in to examine the scene.
