Death crash driver may have suffered heart attack

A 52-year-old Sheppey man died from a suspected heart attack when his truck crashed near the Kingsferry bridge last night. The Sheppey-bound carriageway of the A249 was blocked for more than two hours while police carried out investigations. No other vehicle was involved.

They are not yet naming the man but say he lived in Almond Tree Close which is in the West Minster area of Sheerness. The incident happened just before 5pm. The man's green Iveco Turbo Daily flatback truck ended up on the edge of the roundabout on the mainland side of the bridge.

A police spokesman said: "The man was declared dead at the scene and the road was not re-opened until 7.30pm. A post mortem is due to be carried out today." Any witnesses are asked to contact PC Craig Hewitt at Sittingbourne police station on 01795 477055.
