Video: Dover shooting

Police investigating the shooting of
an 18-year-old man in Dover have recovered a handgun, it was
revealed today.

Officers found the revolver at a house
near the scene of last night's shooting.

An 18-year-old man was arrested and is
still in custody at Dover Police Station.

A 17-year-old boy who was also
arrested has been released without charge.

The incident happened at the junction
of Frith Road and Charlton Green - outside the former Royal Mail
sorting office - at around 8pm.

When police arrived the victim was in Salisbury Road
being coomforted by a friend. A woman was also giving first
aid.

The victim suffered what is described
as a single gunshot injury to the chest and was taken to the
William Harvey Hospital in Ashford with the bullet still in
situ.

He was later transferred to a
London hospital where he has been undergoing surgery for the
removal of the bullet.

His condition is said to be serious,
but stable, and his injuries are not thought to be
life-threatening.

At one stage police said they
also wanted to trace a man in a white hooded top who a witness said
had been seen in the area of Charlton Churchyard and
Beaconsfield Avenue at the time of the shooting.

But officers say they are no longer
looking for anyone else.

Area Commander Chris Hogben said those
involved in the shooting were known to each other and were part of
a "small social group".

Both the victim and the man arrested
lived near where the incident took place.

Frith Road, Salisbury Road, Charlton
Green and part of Maison Dieu Road were all closed on Monday
night, and Charlton Churchyard was also cordoned off.

But all the roads and the churchyard
were re-opened on Tuesday morning.

Police have confirmed that
armed officers attended the scene.

A fingertip search was carried out of
the area during the night, not helped by heavy rain.

being conducted.
