As the red, white and blue bunting comes down following the jubilee, Kent is set to get even more colourful ahead of the Olympics.

The towns of Ashford, Canterbury, Dover, Folkestone, Maidstone, Margate, Ramsgate, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge are going to be decked out in London 2012 flags and banners.

The bunting is due to go up later this month thanks to £180,000 of funding from the Greater London Authority and contributions from borough, district and parish councils.

The only venue in Kent to host an event during the paralympics will also get a makeover.

Chris Hespe, chairman of the Kent 2012 campaign, said: "Brands Hatch will be dressed, and my understanding is that it's going to be purple and yellow.

"The whole place I think will have a celebratory feel to it."

With tens of thousands of people travelling through Kent to get to the Olympic park in Stratford, the international stations at Ashford and Ebbsfleet will also be spruced up.

Mr Hespe added: "It's going to be a really astonishing sight with a lot of colour and that will lead to the excitement and anticipation before the games approach.

"If people aren't excited by the Olympics now, I think they will be by the time it comes round."
