The fire that wrecked a house on a building development in Margate is being treated as suspicious by police.

More than 30 fire fighters from east Kent tackled the blaze at Millmead Road in Margate from around 10.40am on Wednesday.

There were no reports of any injuries although five people from the nearby King Edward VIII pub were evacuated as a precaution.

A police spokesman said: "The three houses involved are now in the process of being demolished as they have been deemed unsafe by officers from Thanet District Council.

"A road closure remains in place in Millmead Road between the junction of Laleham Road and Dane Valley Road."
