A doctor at Darent Valley Hospital hanged himself at home shortly after having an argument with his wife, an inquest has heard.

After finding him, the wife of Dr Krishna Gowda was so distressed she had to be detained under the Mental Health Act for her own safety, and later admitted to Littlebrook Hospital in Dartford.

The couple's two children are being cared for, the coroner's court heard.

The 37-year-old consultant radiologist, of Pembroke Place in Sutton-at-Hone had returned home on August 26 last year and played with his children, eaten and slept before getting into a discussion with his wife, Unanaheshwar Kyattonahally, about whether she should get a job.

In her statement read out to the court, Mrs Kyattonahally, who was also training to be a doctor, said: "We had a discussion about my exams and that I didn’t want to go for any job interviews until I had finished them.
“He was just angry, but not excessively angry."

The inquest heard Dr Gowda then went upstairs and after 30 minutes his wife followed him to apologise, but found his body at the top of the stairs.

Det Sgt Timothy Stanley, of North Kent Police, told the coroner he had led the investigation into Dr Gowda’s death.

He explained Mrs Kyattonahally initially tried to free her husband's lifeless body before running to neighbouring houses for help.

One neighbour returned to the house with her and called an ambulance.
Dr Gowda was confirmed dead at Darent Valley Hospital at 10.37pm.

In her statement, his distraught wife said: "I have been admitted to Littlebrook Hospital where I am being treated for my breakdown and shock."

Recording a verdict of suicide, coroner Roger Hatch said: "I am left with no alternative than to conclude he took his own life."
