An elderly lady who was left fighting for her life after her mobility scooter was involved in a crash has died.

The victim was crossing Scanlons Bridge Road in Hythe at around 10.20am yesterday when her scooter collided with a recovery van.

She was airlifted for treatment at a London hospital but died from her injuries.

Dymchurch Road was closed at either end of Scanlons Bridge Road while forensic officers from Kent Police carried out an investigation.

The road was reopened around four hours after the crash.

A number of people have posted messages of condolence to the woman's family on KentOnline.

Shirley Lewis said she was "very saddened to hear the news", while another reader, called Lizzie, said: "My love goes out to you all at this very sad time."
