An elderly woman was left with head injuries after she disturbed intruders at her home in Staplehurst.

Officers were called to the break-in at 11.55pm on Wednesday after the 78-year-old was assaulted in Hallwards.

She was taken to hospital but later discharged.

The three suspects are described as being white men in their late teens.

Officers now want to trace the owner of a car that had broken down nearby.

At around 11:30pm, the driver's reported to have broken down in Hanmer Way and asked a passing resident for the time.

The car is described as being a 'dirty' estate car. The driver is described as being around 20 years-old, 5ft 11in, clean shaven, with blonde hair.

Detective Sergeant Martin Foord from Kent Police said: "We are very keen to speak with the motorist who is reported to have broken down as he may have seen or heard something that could help us further our investigation and trace the suspects.

"I would like anyone who can help with us with our enquiries to contact me on 01622 604243."
