Ensure you're insured for breakdowns abroad

WITH ferry operators recording an increase in cross-Channel travel this year, AA Business Services warns that many company car drivers may be unaware they are not covered for breakdowns abroad.

Research among AA customers reveals that only a minority of businesses take out European breakdown cover as standard for their company car drivers. The AA is advising all drivers who are planning a summer getaway to check their cover includes Europe.

Adrian Waters, general manager for Commercial Sales at AA Business Services, said: "The cost of an incident abroad could be significant. For example, in France it would cost about £50 just to have the vehicle towed off the motorway, and up to £2,000 to have it brought back to the UK from Europe.

“An irreparable breakdown can not only ruin a trip abroad, it could also mean that the company car is stuck on the Continent when it should be back in the UK.”

Drivers who choose to take AA's European breakdown cover can take advantage of 10 per cent off AA Five Star Personal Travel Insurance.

For more information, all drivers need to do is ask the AA on 0800 551188.
