Fake smoke triggers fire drama

Firefighters were called to Amadeus nighclub in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday, after smoke was seen billowing from its roof.

Crews from Strood and Thames-side were called to the club in Medway Valley Park, Cuxton, at about 2am.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “The revellers were already out of the building when we arrived as it was chucking out time.

"There was smoke coming out of the roof, but after a lengthy investigation as to where the smoke was coming from, it turned out to be the synthetic smoke they billow out on the dance floor.

“It had got into the air conditioning system and set the alarms off. It looks like there may have been a fault with the alarm system.

“We were on the scene for about an hour-and-a-half, as it took us a while to get the ladders up on the roof and find out exactly what the problem was.

“The three pumps which were sent to the scene were sent just as a precaution.”
