A crooked finance director is facing jail for stealing over £1 million from a freight forwarding company.

Michael Clark, who worked for SBS Worldwide, admitted three charges of theft, four of false accounting and one of furnishing false information.

The 55-year-old, of Boughton Church Cottages, Boughton-under-Blean, Faversham, denied stealing £39,063 and the plea was accepted.

Deepak Kapur, prosecuting, said the offences involved taking £1,064,000 from SBS, which has an office at Anchor Boulevard, Crossways, Dartford.

Judge Philip Statman was told at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday that Clark had sold a home he owned and so far repaid £750,000 to the company.

Granting conditional bail until sentence on August 11, the judge told Clark: "You have had the good sense to plead guilty at an early opportunity. You must use this period of bail to sort out your domestic affairs.

"You will well understand that for offences of this gravity, the custody threshold is well passed."
