Fire crews tackle bedroom blaze

Fire crews battled a blaze in a bedroom on Tuesday afternoon after an electrical fault filled the room with smoke and flames.

Two crews from Medway were called to a house in Hurstwood, Chatham, shortly after 3pm. A passer-by had spotted smoke rising from the back of the semi-detached property.

The home owners were not in the property at the time and there were no casualties.

The crews battled with the blaze for more than an hour, bringing it under control by about 4.30pm.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "When we arrived smoke was issuing from windows and cracks. The guys put on breathing apparatus and went inside. We were all done in about an hour and a half."
