TEN fire crews were called to tackle a serious blaze at a car fragmentation site on Tuesday evening.

Approximately 200 tons of car rubbish and plastics were alight at the yard in Ridham Dock Road, Iwade, near Sittingbourne.

Crews were called at 5.20pm and at its height more than 80 firefighters were on the scene from stations including Sittingbourne, Sheerness, Queenborough, Teynham, Eastchurch, Faversham, Gillingham and Medway.

They were there for more than two hours. A water unit was also at the site.

No one was injured in the incident.
