Firefighters rescue mum from bathroom

A mother and her young child had to be rescued by firefighters after they were trapped in their bathroom for several hours.

The mum, who has not been named, was stuck in her upstairs bathroom on Monday morning after the handle fell off the door.

There was no one else at home.

Eventually, she realised the only option was to shout for help from from the bathroom window of her home in Barnsole Road, Gillingham.

A crew from Medway fire station were called out to rescue the pair at about 1.15pm.

A spokesman said: “She had been in there for a couple of hours as the door handle had come off and she just couldn’t get the door open.

“She then realised the only way out was to call for help from neighbours and people walking along the street.

“Lucky someone heard her cries they called us.

“The lady was very grateful to be freed and we were happy to help.”
