A 33-year-old man who was taken to hospital after a high-powered firework exploded in his face has lost the sight of one eye, it has been revealed.

Daniel Browning, from Exeter Walk, Rochester, suffered severe cuts and burns to his face when the device blew up in Warren Wood Road, on Thursday, June 23.

His mother, Carol, said the incident had been a huge blow to her family and her son was still in shock about what happened.

Mrs Browning said: "Daniel has lost the sight in his right eye and has scarring and a lot of stitches down one side of his face.

"He has regained his hearing after the explosion deafened him, and he went through a four-hour operation to repair the damage to his face.

"The whole thing has been awful and is the most traumatic thing to ever happened to us. Daniel is slowly recovering at home, but I don't think he's quite got over the shock of it all yet."

Mr Browning was taken to Maidstone Hospital for treatment and will go back for more treatment in the future.
