A former Gills player has been jailed for life after a gangland murder.

Gavin Grant, who played for the team between December 2005 and the following May, shot Leon Labastide on his doorstep in north west London in May 2004.

The Old Bailey heard Grant was involved in a series of "tit-for-tat" shootings on the Stonebridge Park Estate in Harlesden.

Grant, who also played for Millwall and Wycombe Wanderers, was convicted of murder on Friday.

He had earlier been acquitted of another fatal shooting in nearby Willesden in 2005.

He walked free from court after being found not guilty of conspiracy to murder in a gangland shooting.
