A BLAZE in a tractor shed caused several gas cylinders to explode at a farm in Boughton Road, Sandway, near Maidstone, last night.

Firefighters were called after receiving several calls reporting explosions from the remote out building shortly before midnight.

Two crews from Charing and Lenham were sent but needed to call for a water unit from Ashford and specialist breathing equipment to deal with asbestos. The building was known to contain a number of acetylene cylinder.

Firefighters remained at the scene this morning continuing to pump water to reduce the temperature of the building in case of further explosions.
