Assistant manager Ian Hendon has called on the entire Gillingham squad to ready themselves for action as they face a hectic mid-season scramble for points.

The Gills have lined up with the same starting XI in the past three matches, but with three successive midweek games ahead of them Hendon, pictured, knows they’ll need to mix it up.

League 2 leaders Chesterfield arrive at Priestfield on Tuesday for the first of six games in 19 days – a fixture list that will see Gillingham need every one of their senior players.

"You can’t go six games and in every one have the same team. It’s not going to happen – it’s impossible," said Hendon.

"We had a team meeting recently and said that everyone would be involved, without a doubt."

The likes of Saturday’s goal hero Luke Rooney, Adebayo Akifnenwa, Stefan Payne, Mark Bentley, Garry Richards and Joe Martin will be queuing up to get a place in a side which has lost just once in their last nine outings.

"The gaffer has been preaching about the squad from day one," said Hendon.

"I looked at the quality of players when I came here – any one of those in the squad could be playing in League 2 week in, week out."
