Gillingham have made an offer to Cardiff defender Darren Dennehy, who impressed during a loan stint at Priestfield last season.

Although the centre-back (pictured) has one year left on his contract at the Championship club, Gills manager Andy Hessenthaler believes that is not likely to prove a stumbling block.

"We’re waiting for an answer from Darren and his dad," said Hessenthaler. "We’ve made an offer to Darren and he’s mulling a few things over. It would be nice to keep him and get him on a permanent basis. All we can do is wait now."

Hessenthaler is also waiting patiently on Mark Bentley and Garry Richards, who are expected to complete the formalities on new deals with the Gills soon.
