Martin Allen needs no reminder of the threat that teams at the bottom of League 2 pose.

He rescued Barnet from the drop into non-league last season and has previously guided both Brentford and Notts County to safety.

The Gills face an Accrington team fighting to maintain their Football League status on Saturday.

Accrington have won back-to-back games to climb off the bottom of League 2. On Tuesday they beat AFC Wimbledon 4-0 but still remain in the thick of the relegation battle.

"I know exactly what it’s like to be down at the bottom," said Gills boss Allen. "I have spent most of my career at teams fighting at the bottom and Accrington are fighting for their life. We are fighting for something else and they are tough games.

"When people are fighting for their lives to survive in the Football League, it makes it even tougher."

The Accrington match is a "kids for a quid" fixture, with all under-16s being admitted for £1 if accompanied by a paying adult.
