The arrival of Leon Legge has pushed young defender Callum Davies down the pecking order at Priestfield - but he has no complaints.
Davies, pictured, admits he was surprised to have even been part of manager Martin Allen’s plans this season and the 19-year-old said: "I am only young so I have to bide my time, but every game is a positive and just being around the camp, even if I am not playing, is great.
"I am going to get better with every game I play. At my age I am susceptible to mistakes and have to live and learn.
"I need to take my time and when the time comes, I can take it with both hands. All the time I am young, I am happy to get a game when I can."
Davies – who was an unused substitute against Bristol Rovers on Saturday – has so far played 15 times for the Gills after forcing his way in during an impressive pre-season. Legge immediately replaced Davies in the team and looks set to form a partnership at the back with captain Adam Barrett.
Davies said: "He is a good player. New players are going to come and some will go. It doesn’t matter who plays because we are all in it together as a squad."
