Matt Fish became the 13th different goalscorer for Gillingham this season after hitting the second goal in the 4-1 win over Burton on Saturday - and the 23-year-old believes that spread of goals speaks volumes about the team.

"We are together as a team and that just shows it," said Fish. "We all defend and we all chip in with goals so there isn’t a lot to moan about.

"It shows we can score goals from all over the place, it’s not just the strikers."

The win kept the Gills three points clear at the top of League 2 but Port Vale remain on their heels, matching the scoreline Martin Allen’s men produced at the weekend against Burton by seeing off managerless Wycombe.

And although Fish is focusing on number one he is aware of the challenge.

"We’ve lost one and drawn one but they are still only three points behind us so you have to give credit to them," said the right-back.

"But we are not even thinking about anyone else and we know if we win our games we stay at the top."
