Gills fans are looking for more joy on the road this weekend

Gillingham fans have had some rare joy on their travels in recent weeks and head north hoping for a third successive away victory this weekend at Macclesfield. Our panel of supporters are remaining cautious but all predict that the Gills will come away with at least a point from the trip to Moss Rose.

So we come to another away game - can we dare to dream that we’ll make a mockery of our recent away form and win again? If we did it would be three wins in a row which would be a fantastic achievement for a team who was quickly becoming the laughing stock of the English leagues.

This could well be Whelpdale (pictured) and Lee’s final games for us and if that is the case let’s hope they go out with a bang and we can thank them for the impetus and skill they bought us.

I’m not entirely sure where Macclesfield are in the table but with our recent results we can go with confidence. If the loanees do go after this game there are a few returning players who will have to step up and pick up where they left off.

Even though the weather may have disrupted our plans, hopefully it won’t have disrupted our momentum. Another win would do wonders for confidence and if it happens would provide real hope for a genuine surge up the table.

Gillingham have won twice away from home in consecutive matches, however, the bad weather has really disrupted us and has come at the worst possible time. It looks like none of our injured players will be back due to the snow and added to that Chris Palmer will also be out which is a big blow.

Having said that, it looks as if Macclesfield are on a bit of a decline whereas we are heading in the opposite direction.

I can’t see us winning this game as Macclesfield will be strong in the air and from set pieces. I predict a 2-2 draw with Cody McDonald (pictured) and Chris Whelpdale getting the goals, and a Bencherif double for Macclesfield to peg us back. I will be very pleased with a draw though to be fair!

I think the game will definitely be a good one, hopefully the two and a half week break won’t have ruined the momentum we had from the two away wins. And three points will certainly push us nicely up the table this weekend.

It’s disappointing that it is Chris Whelpdale and Charlie Lee’s (pictured) last game of their loan spells. They have been quality in their time with the club.

Prediction: Macc 1 Gills 1

MARK FELLOWES (Ashford)

I think three wins on the trot is a little too far for the Gills. The great British weather hasn’t helped us, we just starting picking up a few wins and a bit of momentum, and the snow comes and we don’t play football for two weeks. However, the team has got a few much needed players returning, so I think we can snatch a draw.

It’s been frustrating to have a week off because the players will have been anxious to get out and put right the wrongs of the Huddersfield result (6-0 defeat). I think most people have been able to write that off as a (very) bad day at the office.

The players have a great team spirit and I think they will all pull together to get back on track. Our recent home form has been excellent until a draining run of games caught up with us, but now we’ve had a bit of a break there’s no reason we can’t get back on form - especially now we’ve had a few injured players back.

The pace of Emile Sinclair causes most people in the division problems and Tyrone Barnett can be unplayable on his day. But we have a lot of young players and sometimes inexperience can catch up with us a bit.

Most people will expect us to hoof it all game, but we’ve really not done that this season - but we do use a long throw when the opportunity arises. I predict Macc to put a stop to Gillingham’s away form turnaround.

Prediction: Macc 2 Gills 1
