Gillingham keeper Ross Flitney has welcomed the recent addition to the training ground of a club legend.

Ron Hillyard, the club’s former goalkeeper and record appearance holder, was last week appointed as part-time coach.

Flitney, pictured, believes the appointment will be a major boost for himself and the rest of the club’s goalkeepers.

He said: "He has got a great wealth of experience and some great sessions in him. It is a massive bonus.

"Ron is a massive fans’ favourite and he has brought his vast experience here and that is great news for myself, Paulo (Gazzaniga) and Daren (Hawkes) and especially the young keepers. I think he is going to be a valuable addition to the squad.

"Having another coach here is brilliant and he can pick up on things that he might help us improve on."

Hillyard will work with the keepers two mornings a week, while retaining his commitments at Ebbsfleet, where he works on matchdays as part of manager Liam Daish’s backroom staff.
