Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler paid tribute to the club’s away fans, whose long wait for a win on their travels continued at Bury on Saturday.

"It’s been a tough week for them – Morecambe away last Saturday, Southend on Tuesday and then Bury," admitted Hessenthaler (pictured) after his side's 5-4 defeat at Gigg Lane.

"Apologies to the fans, especially for the first half. At the end, they’ve clapped the boys off, fair play to them, as I think they saw we had a go in the second half.

"I feel for the fans because they didn’t deserve what they saw in the first half."
