Midfielder Danny Spiller has gone the extra mile for Gillingham - and it is already paying off.

Spiller (pictured), an ever present after rejoining in the close season, has been putting in extra hours in a bid to stay injury free and he is feeling the benefits already.

The 28-year-old said: "The main thing for me is that I need to be 100 per cent fit.

"I know what I need to do in and out of training. It if means staying for an extra hour after training or doing an ice bath then I will. I’m into the injury prevention side of things now."

While results have been disappointing to date, Spiller has caught the eye and fans voted him the KM Group’s player of the month for August.

Spiller left Priestfield in June 2007 but injuries turned his move to Millwall into a nightmare and he featured only 10 times for the Londoners before spells at Wycombe and Dagenham.

The return of manager Andy Hessenthaler prompted Spiller’s switch to Priestfield.

"It’s been a pleasure coming back and putting a Gills shirt on again," he said. "Everyone from the players, the management and the fans have supported me and made me feel at home."
