Gillingham midfielder Stuart Lewis will remain at Priestfield after injury to Barry Fuller

Gillingham midfielder Stuart Lewis will no longer be available for loan following the injury to captain Barry Fuller.

Boss Mark Stimson circulated Lewis' name to other clubs on Monday but the loss of Fuller has left a hole to fill at right-back.

Chris Palmer is expected to play on Saturday at Carlisle but Lewis, pictured, will now be needed as cover.

Stimson said: "He was available and now he's not. After talking to him he is ready to step back in and have a go if he is given a chance just like Adam Miller and Gary Richards really who hadn't been playing.

"In Miller's case it looked like his future wasn't here but he has done he right thing, got his head down, and has put in some decent performances. Stuart can do the same."

Stimson still has other players available for loan as he looks to reduce the wage bill and give some reserve players senior football.

Andy Pugh has been tracked by a Blue Square Premier club and and Welling are also interested in taking him permanently. Stimson is expected to discuss the options with Pugh today.

Mark McCammon is likely to move on loan for a month to a League 2 club before the weekend.

"Hopefully something will be done by close of play Friday night," said Stimson.

"Maybe he can come back stronger and fitter and help us."

Young defender Tom Wynter has also attracted interest but Stimson said: "He could go out but we don't want him to go yet because you saw what happened the other night and the luck we've had this year with injuries. We can't gamble and we have to be careful."
