Gillingham trialists Lance Cronin, Danny Spiller, Stanley Aborah and Serge Makofo waiting on Hessenthaler

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler admits he’s facing pressure to make up his mind on which remaining trialists to keep and which to release.

On Thursday he signed Tony Sinclair on a one-year contract but others are waiting to hear what Hessenthaler wants to do.

Keeper Lance Cronin is high on Hessenthaler's wanted list and he’s also likely to put a deal on the table for Danny Spiller.

Cronin looks set to be offered a deal, with the Gills boss saying: "He’s done enough for me and he can only get better."

Spiller, meanwhile, has an offer from US side Chicago Fire but Hessenthaler is keen for him to stay put.

"Spiller’s energy levels are frightening and you can see how much he wants to play for the football club. He would be hard to let go," he said.

Also hoping to win a deal is former Ajax man Stanley Aborah (pictured below) and Congolese forward Serge Makofo, although Hessenthaler admits the club are unlikely to be able to accommodate them all.

"I may have to see how far the purse strings stretch and speak to Mr Scally," said Hessenthaler. "They’ve all done well and made it difficult for me."

Aborah, who has been injured for the last 18 months, is someone Hessenthaler is struggling to make his mind up on as the player has a lack of matches under his belt.

However, he did add: "I have to look at League 2 and think, ‘can he go away to Accrington on a dodgy pitch and be as effective?’ That’s what you have to look at. Danny Spiller at Accrington would be effective."
