Josh Gowling is hoping Gillingham can put things right when they visit his former club Hereford on Saturday.

Gowling, pictured, played 13 games on loan for The Bulls two seasons ago, and knows after an opening day draw with Cheltenham and a heavy defeat at Norwich things need to improve.

He said: "We know what the gaffer wants from us and we are disappointed because we expect good things from each other and we have set high standards.

"We want to be champions this year so we have to go again Saturday and put things right."

Gowling enjoyed his brief spell with Hereford in League 1 as he took a welcome break from an unhappy spell at Carlisle – but he’ll only have one thing on his mind by three o’clock.

"I just want to get our first away win; that’s all I care about," he said.

"It’s going to be nice to go back there and Hereford is a lovely, family club.

"They took me in and made me feel welcome. Unfortunately I got injured towards the end of the season and missed quite a few of the latter games, but I had a great time."
