Mark Stimson is hoping to have been told the full extent of his transfer budget this week.

The Gillingham boss (pictured right) is already on the hunt for new players but knows he’ll be competing against some big spenders in League 1.

"Once we’re told how much we have to spend we’ll spend it as wisely as possible," he said.

"The finances are going to be nowhere near some of the teams but others will be similar and we just have to get the best out of the budget that we can.

"There are some good young players available for free and that’s where we’re going to have to look.

"We’ve already put together a group of players who have potential to play in this league or above with the likes of Curtis Weston, Simeon Jackson and Stuart Lewis who haven’t cost a lot.

"I feel that Garry Richards can step up another level and Dennis Oli could be the surprise package in the league as last season his best games came on the bigger stages."

Stimson will be looking for permanent acquisitions firstly but will also be keeping an eye on players who may become available on long term loans.

"I would rather have permanent players but if we can’t get what we want and someone is available then it’s something we could do," he said. "We’re in Division 1 so we appeal to a bigger market."
