Queen Victoria will reign again when she officially re-launches a Kent garden centre.

Her Royal Highness, otherwise known as Brenda Gilliam-Hill, will assist with the ribbon cutting ceremony at the recently refurbished Wyevale Garden Centre at Elm Court,Capstone Road,Gillingham at 10.30am on Saturday.

Garden centre Manager, Jim Ashby said: “We are delighted that our very own Queen Victoria is able to join us at our official re-opening. We chose the Queen for our VIP role to tie in with Gillingham’s links with Charles Dickens.

“To assist with our celebrations members from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) will be outside the garden centre over the weekend to chat to visitors and will bring along a dummy lifeboat for children to sit in.

“Representatives from the Medway Beekeepers Association will also be on-hand. Visitors will be able to see a working colony of bees in action via a special observation hive. Both of these activities will of course depend on the weather but at the moment it looks likely to be dry.”

The Medway branch of the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association will also be in-store to chat to visitors about the work they do and raise money for the charity. The new look centre includes a restaurant with an outside seating area plus refurbished disabled facilities.
