'Higher speeds mean more accidents'

A ROAD safety champion insists that reducing speed will save lives, despite public irritation over speed limit enforcement.

Speed limits are a major topic of discussion but RoadSafe believes enforcement methods are often misunderstood.

Adrian Walsh, director of RoadSafe said: "There is a tremendous amount of robust scientific evidence, based on extensive data, that in a given situation, higher speeds mean more accidents, more severe accidents, and more deaths.

"We are keen that those responsible for influencing public opinion realise the implications of this."
