A power cut silenced the Kent biggest music festival today when one of its top acts were on stage.

Brit rockers 10CC were moments into their closing number at the Hop Farm when they were abruptly halted.

The sound system went on again briefly, but then cut out for a second time on the last note of Rubber Bullets.

Some festival-goers reported seeing smoke coming from behind the stage.

Problems begin with the band's opening song when the microphone appeared not to be switched on.

A festival-goer said: "I can’t believe they were so unceremoniously cut off. They’ve been the act of the festival so far."

At present the big screens remain switched off, although the sound system is working again and Death Cab for Cutie have appeared on stage.

Earlier in the day organisers were booed for ushering second act City and Colour off the stage, despite announcing they had one song to play.

Organisers said they had "a tight schedule to keep".

The Hop Farm is expected to attract 30,000 people this weekend and will end on Sunday when pop legend Prince performs.
