EMPLOYEES at Medway Maritime Hospital have been sent letters about reducing staff.

The NHS Trust plans to cut 160 jobs to save money. Staff are being offered voluntary reduction of hours or early retirement. The Trust has also put a freeze on non-urgent recruitment.

Other reductions will be achieved through natural wastage as staff move on or retire.

A hospital spokesperson said: "We are making every effort to avoid compulsory redundancies."
