House suffers major smoke damage

A woman was taken to hospital after her home was badly damaged by fire.

Two pumps from Medway fire station were called to the blaze in Hamelin Road, Gillingham, at 10am on Saturday.

Crews spent 40 minutes at the house extinguishing the flames.

According to a Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman, the fire may have started “in paper work”.

The woman living at the address was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Her condition is not known.

The house suffered major smoke damage and some heat damage in a bedroom.
