Inquiries are continuing into the attack on a Thanet police officer who was knocked unconscious with a fire extinguisher while investigating a break in.

PC Mike Tovell, 30, suffered head, neck and back injuries after being struck at a block of flats in Northdown Road, Cliftonville, around 10.40am on Friday, July 11.

Police say there were at least three offenders in the empty premises which was ruled unsafe for occupation in June.

A force spokesman confirmed that the investigation remains operational and added that PC Tovell is expected to return to work shortly.

Any person who saw anyone entering or running away from 258 Northdown Road, or who has seen anything suspicious since then, should contact Kent Police on 01622 690690.
