Ice and snow make driving conditions hazardous

Ice caused problems for rush-hour motorists in parts of Kent after snow flurries yesterday and overnight.

Driving conditions were hazardous on the A299 Thanet Way in both directions between junction 7 of the M2 (Faversham/Brenley Corner) and the A291 (Herne Bay).

In Whitstable, conditions are poor due to snow in Cromwell Road at the B2205 (Oxford Street).

Snow and ice is causing problems on both Hart Hill and the A252 Northern By-Pass in Charing, near Ashford. Police say Hart Hill is closed in both directions between Stonestile Farm Road and Warren Street/Stalisfield Road.

Drivers are being urged to take care on the A252 in both directions between the A20 Maidstone Road/School Road/ Sayer Road and Faversham Road.

No problems have been reported on public transport.

The Met Office is forecasting a severe frost tonight with a chance of snow showers in the north of the county. There will be lows of minus 5C.
