Like many players at Charlton, I am out of contract this summer but this is not the most important thing I’m thinking about at the moment.

The club has made clear they are not going to discuss new contracts with players until after the end of the season, so everyone knows where they stand and can get on with playing football.

I know a lot of fans are talking about the situation and that’s understandable. Everyone wants to know what’s happening next season, especially because this campaign has been so disappointing but the club has new owners and a new manager, so a lot has changed during the season.

I’m sure there will be more changes over the summer, so we’ll sit down then and take it from there but I like this country and Charlton, and I’m comfortable in London.

The last few games of this season have been tough after we slipped down the league a couple of months ago. No player likes to have nothing left to play for but we didn’t get the results we needed to stay in the promotion race.

Now we have to stay professional - for ourselves, for our team-mates and the fans.

We also have to do our best for the other teams in the league.

Our remaining games are against teams who are still fighting to go up or stay in this division and it wouldn’t be fair to their rivals if we didn’t do our best. The club has always been ambitious and perhaps one advantage of the current situation is that it gives us extra time to plan for next season.

We can start to plan now and make sure we have done everything possible to start the season well as we look for promotion.

On Monday, the manager gave a debut to Callum Harriott, who only started full-time training last year and has plenty of potential and this is a good time to give youngsters a bit of experience, experiment, and work on how we want to do things next season.

The win against Rochdale was extra special for me because it was the first game my daughter, Tessa, has attended - and I scored!

People have asked me whether my goal celebration was related to that but it wasn’t, really.

It’s just from a song that the lads put on in the gym sometimes which has a silly little dance connected to it, so that was what that was.
