Invasion! Is the Garden of England overgrown?

That's the question we're posing after complaints from two parts of the county about knee-high weeds and grass not being cut for six weeks.

Residents in Herne Bay have reported two-foot weeds sprouting through cracks in the pavements and what were once grass verges resembling roadside meadows.

Trixie Hayes, 82, of Fernlea Avenue, said: "I've lived in Herne Bay all my life and I have never, ever known the grass to be like it. It's all over town!"

And apparently the "invasion" is not confined to the east of the county. Stephen Pedersen, from Rainham, emailed Kent Online to say: "I am appalled at the state of the grass areas in and around Kenilworth Drive.

"The grass here has not been cut for at least six weeks and is over a foot high - it looks such a mess."
