Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Pooperman...

A councillor has been hailed by frustrated residents as a Superman - or should that be Pooperman?

Cllr Clive Goddard (Con) came to the rescue when mystery offenders spread up to 50 bags of dog mess across the Rype playing fields, Lydd, on Sunday morning.

The father-of-two fetched surgical gloves from a first aid kit in his Ford Focus at 9am and set about picking up the waste, said impressed Manor Road resident John Stanley.

"At the moment the Tories are not doing too much good, but at least one Tory is!" he said.

"I think this was an excellent thing for Cllr Goddard to do.

"It shows he puts his community first."

When told he had been observed, Cllr Goddard said he was only doing what he would expect of others.

The PCSO, who owns Lydd United, said: "I help out with Lydd Grasshoppers, the junior football team, and we couldn't have that kind of mess on the field or in the play park. I was disgusted.

"Someone did this deliberately. The dog bin is halfway up a lamp post so I would rule out animal involvement.

"I'll talk to the local PCSOs and community wardens about it."
