Jo Kuffour is set to return to the Gills attack for their crunch game against Crawley on Tuesday.

Kuffour (pictured) came off the bench for Gillingham at Cheltenham on Saturday and boss Andy Hessenthaler is ready to unleash him on Crawley from the word go.

The striker has netted eight goals in League 2 for the Gills and returned from a knee injury on Saturday after being sidelined for a fortnight.

Hessenthaler said: "It was great to have him back and he was as bright as a button when he came on. I think the little rest that he had hopefully will spur him on."

Kuffour is set to replace Dennis Oli, who himself hobbled off at the weekend with a knee injury of his own, picked up after an awkward fall.

The Gills will also be able to call upon left-back Joe Martin, after he completed a three-game ban. Martin, however, is likely to be the only additional player Hessenthaler will have at his disposal.

Danny Spiller, Lewis Montrose and Charlie Lee all remain suspended, while striker Gavin Tomlin won’t be ready until the weekend at the earliest, as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

The Gills won at Crawley on Boxing Day, leading to their manager Steve Evans to accuse Hessenthaler’s side of celebrating like they had "won the World Cup."

Evans made an accusation to the police that Hessenthaler had used racist language in the match, towards him, but retracted the complaint within days.
